The halls of Aichi High School were eerily quiet, most of the students having gone home for the day. School was over, so it would be strange for anyone to stay too late after wards. Even most of the teachers were gone, leaving only a few stragglers and a janitor or two.
Travis stared blankly ahead as he walked down the empty hallway, his shirt untucked and his tie pulled loose. His hands were shoved into the pockets of Aichi's uniform pants, two pepper mints being the only contents of those pockets. His shoes made a soft "clack" against the tile floor as he walked, slowly leading him to his destination.
He liked it when the school was empty--it was far too loud during the school day. He preferred the quietness of the school when it was unoccupied. It gave him time to think, and this was the only time he could practice. See, the school was the only place nearby with a piano, it belonging in the music room of course. Travis couldn't afford a piano, much less fit one in his sister's little house, so his only option was to play at the school. But he really didn't need anyone interrupting him, so he had to wait until everyone left. That usually meant he spent a good two more hours at school than necessary, not counting however long he decided to get lost in the escape the music brought him.
Something akin to a smirk came to his face as he made it to the unlocked music room. There, in the corner by a window, was a big black piano. He moved towards it, making sure the door shut behind him, and ran a hand over the cover that hid the keys from him. He sat down gracefully and lifted the cover. He ran a hand through his raven locks, contemplating something for a moment, before placing his fingers on the keys to play a "c". Once the clean, clear note came out, his fingers moved on his own as a beautiful melody burst forth, filling the whole room with its music.
It began loudly and victoriously before decrescendo-ing into something soft and gentle, almost romantic. His eyes slid shut as a serene smile creeped onto his face. The romantic ballad lasted for about two minutes before it slowed even further, turning dark and depressing, followed by a crescendo into something light-hearted.
The music was abruptly stopped as his eyes snapped open, turning his head towards the now opening door. Perhaps the school wasn't as empty as he previously thought. Travis sat still and quiet, waiting for the door to reveal who was there.
